Get your Hibernate on with this cozy cocktail

Diversity.  That’s one of the things that we love the most about our DC Food Tours.

Each stop has their own unique story, and we love taking the deep dive to find out what makes them each so special!

This is why this year we decided to pull back the curtain and share with you more behind the scenes stories about the places we choose to feature on our tour.  This month, we head to Sotto DC, a cozy and intimate bar tucked below the madness of 14th Street NW.

With its luscious dark wood furniture, smelling of rich mahogany (see what I did there), hidden dining rooms, and cozy compartments,

Sotto DC is the perfect place for a date or a candid catch up session with friends over a cocktail.

Although the scene is luxurious, the staff is approachable and take pride in what they serve.  We sat down with Sotto DC’s bartender Jason Rogers to get the scoop on one of his favorite original cocktail creations, Embargo:

Embargo

2oz dark rum of your choice (Jason uses Zacapa at Sotto DC)

.5oz Velvet Falernum (Caribbean citrusy cane sugar liquor)

.5oz Dolin Sweet Vermouth

1 dash Angostura bitters

2 dashes orange bitters

Combine first 3 ingredients into a mixing glass with ice.

Stir until well chilled.

Strain into a chilled coupe.

Add bitters.

peel a large swath of orange and squeeze over glass to spray the oils over the drink. Then for some extra class- Rub orange peel around the rim of the glass & drop it in.  Voila!

The Embargo is a dark, strong, fragrant drink that pairs perfectly with its dimly lit surroundings.

Come for drink… stay for food.  Jason’s tip: “try our sandwiches when you come for happy hour, the merguez is my favorite”.

It’s not hard to see why we’re so proud to feature Sotto DC on our DC happy hour tour. So get in and check them out next time you’re looking to warm up on 14th St!
