Maybe you’ve seen the changes happening in Shaw, or maybe you don’t venture here often. This private tour is designed to get you up to speed on its culture and cuisine.
Quick Details
This private DC food tour begins with flavors and techniques popular in West Africa, while learning how the mixing of cultures all around the Atlantic influenced what everyone was eating. We travel through Washington, DC neighborhoods to try some of the oldest soul food recipes served in any restaurant in the world. Finally, we end with a sweet taste of today’s modern soul food movement.
In addition to the great culinary experience we’ll have, proceeds from this tour go to support the UMD-HBCU Graduate Mentoring Scholarship Fund, and was started in honor of Dr. Tony Whitehead, Professor of Medical Anthropology, Director and Founder of the Cultural Systems Analysis Group, Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland.
